6101 aluminum sheet belongs to Al-Mg-Si series aluminum alloy, and its conductivity is usually above 55% IACS (International Annealed Copper Standard), and some improved types (such as 6101B) can reach 58.5% IACS.

This performance makes it stand out among conductive materials, for example:

Busbar conductor: The conductivity of 6101 aluminum sheet is more than 90% of pure aluminum (about 61% IACS), and it has higher strength (tensile strength of more than 220MPa), which can replace traditional copper materials and reduce weight by more than 30%.

New energy vehicles: In battery packs, 6101 aluminum rods replace copper bars, which not only reduces the weight of the whole vehicle (aluminum density is only 1/3 of copper), but also increases the driving range.

Photovoltaic inverter: The 6101B aluminum alloy profile developed by Fujian Antai has a conductivity of 58.5% IACS, which meets the conductivity requirements of high-power equipment.

Conductive performance analysis:

Alloy composition optimization: Silicon (0.3-0.7%) and magnesium (0.35-0.8%) form Mg₂Si strengthening phase, which improves strength while maintaining high conductivity by reducing the scattering of electrons by solid solution atoms.

Heat treatment process: Double-stage aging (such as 165℃/4h + 200℃/5-12h) can increase the conductivity to 57-58.1% IACS, while the tensile strength remains at 223-227MPa.

Impurity control: By reducing the content of impurities such as iron and copper (such as Fe≤0.5%), the lattice distortion is reduced and the conductive performance is further improved.

Applications

Power transmission:

Busbar system: 6101 aluminum plate is used for busbar conductors of substations and switch cabinets. It has high conductivity and corrosion resistance and can be used for a long time in humid environments.

Cable tray: Its lightweight characteristics (density 2.7g/cm³) reduce the difficulty of installation, and the surface anodizing treatment enhances weather resistance.

New energy field:

Electric vehicles: The conductive bars and motor windings in the battery pack are made of 6101 aluminum plate, which reduces the weight by 40% after replacing copper materials, and has excellent welding performance (TIG welding or resistance welding can be used).

Photovoltaic power station: The inverter housing and busbar use 6101B aluminum alloy, and the conductivity is increased to 58.5% IACS, while meeting the requirements of high temperature resistance (above 150℃) and corrosion resistance.

Rail transportation:

High-speed rail contact network: 6101 aluminum alloy wire has both high conductivity and vibration resistance, and can stably transmit current during high-speed train operation.

Subway power supply system: busbars and cable ducts use 6101 aluminum plates, which have better corrosion resistance than pure aluminum and reduce maintenance costs.

Technical advantages: High strength and light weight

The tensile strength of 6101 aluminum sheet can reach 220MPa (T6 state), which is 3 times that of pure aluminum, and the density is only 1/3 of copper, which is suitable for conductive parts that require structural support.

For example, in the battery pack of new energy vehicles, 6101 aluminum bars can carry large currents and withstand the mechanical stress of the battery pack.

The natural oxide film (Al₂O₃) on the surface provides basic protection and performs well in neutral or weakly acidic environments. If higher corrosion resistance is required, it can be anodized (film thickness 10-20μm) or coated with a cerium-based coating (alkali resistance increased by 3 times).

Processing and cost advantages:

Easy to process: It can be formed by extrusion, rolling, bending and other processes, and the conductivity loss after cold processing is less than 5%.

Cost-effectiveness: The price of aluminum is only 1/3 of that of copper, and the production process of 6101 alloy is mature, and the comprehensive cost is more than 40% lower than that of copper.
